Conferentie PSDE

Global Footprint Currency
Currently I am researching whether it is possible to have an alternative currency based on the global footprint (http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php/GFN/page/at_a_glance/ ). Especially when you combine this with a basic global footprint income, you'll have a righteous, human distribution of money and income which will comply with the U.N. Declaration of human rights, providing every human being with a fair and equal chance. Other possible advantages are that costs are internalized, that there will be only reel inflation or deflation, that there will be no more debt, that individual's have free choice within limits provided by ourselves and nature, that merits are earned by your own actions/thoughts, etc.
-
Not only the financial, but many other crises are a result of our monetary and financial system that have caused a monetary orientated society that cannot fulfill the UN deceleration of human rights, which is by now 43 years old.
-
Even though people are becoming more holistic, whether or not by collaborating, and are becoming more and more aware of the different crises and even though there are many good initiatives, ideas, alternative life forms, etc.; they just can't escape the monetary-trap and therefor most won't make it. The best way, it seems, to value planet and people is by profit, which will never contribute to a durable and solidarity society with current economic paradigms
-
The Global Footprint measures how much land and water area a human population requires to produce the resource it consumes and to absorb its carbon dioxide emissions, using prevailing technology
-
This calculation method gives an extremely simple and yet, very efficient way to let society drive itself on an economic level (numbers are purely fictional):
-
crop of lettuce 0.001 acres
-
Beefsteak 0,1 acres
-
Buy your own car 5,0 acres
-
Rent a car for one day 0,05 acres
-
In theory it should be possible to create a list of every human activity incorporating all externalities that go along with it. Based on that, it should be possible to have a new monetary and financial system based on the global footprint
This is not an easy task however. Especially from a pragmatic point of view. I try to get this research under as much attention as possible since I, but I am of course subjective, feel this has lots and lots of potential, especially combined with other truly sustainable ideas. In turn, I think this will also help define truly sustainable ideas not only because it takes these initiatives out of the money trap they often run into, but also because it will give them insight in how 'sustainable' they really are.
